Nokia X, XL and X+ won’t be getting Nokia’s Software Platform 2.0 (android 4.3)

Microsoft has let us know that the first series of Nokia X devices, the Nokia X, X+ and XL would not be getting updated to Nokia’s software platform 2.0 which is based off android 4.3.

Even though the three devices are relatively new, Microsoft states hardware limitations as the reason why the new update with ships with the Nokia X2 would not be making its way down to the first generation. While Microsoft skips the specifics, it is possible that the new OS platform only supports RAM from 1GB and up, seeing as the X2 comes with 1GB RAM while the Nokia X spots just 512MB and the X+ and XL both spot 768MB.

It always sucks to get shafted this way by OEMs, especially when the ink on your purchase receipt has barely dried. In any case, Microsoft restates that it is committed to the old hardware still and would continue to release maintenance updates for that platform.

...half genius, half unserious.
