Two cheaper alternatives to the Microsoft Surface Pro 3

Two cheaper alternatives to the Microsoft Surface Pro 3

The Surface Pro 3 is one of the best work tablets in the market and it is also quite pricey and might leave a large hole in the pocket of most folks. But thanks to the Chinese, here are two cheaper alternatives:

1. Chuwi Vi10 Dual OS:

Chuwi vi10The name might sound strange to quite a number of people, but Chuwi has been making tablets for quite a while; having bought 2 of their products in the past, I can vouch for them as I have noticed an increasing quality with each device they have released.

The Chuwi Vi10 sports features that are starting to become the standard for Chinese tablets (i.e. an Intel processor and a dual boot option):

Boasting a 10.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768, and covered with a tempered glass on the front and rear, the Vi10 has a 2.16 GHz Intel Atom Z3736F quad-core processor which gives it the ability to run android (Kitkat 4.4.2) and Windows (8.1 with Bing), this is as a result of the agreement between Intel and Windows to offer low cost processors and free windows licenses to Chinese manufacturers; and the recent use of Intel processors in android devices.

The tablet comes with 2GB of RAM, a 32GB ROM, 2 full sized USB ports and 1 micro USB port, 2.0MP cameras on the front and rear. There is a micro SD slot that supports up to 128GB cards, WiFi, OTG support, external 3G support, an 8000mAh battery, HDMI 1.4 port, and a weight of 523g (will weigh more if there’s a keyboard case attached).

While I’m not sure if this tablet will get updated to lollipop, I am sure it will get a free upgrade to Windows 10.

Price: about $200 with a keyboard case.

Cube i7 Remix:Cube i7 remix

The Cube brand is more popular than the one above in Nigeria as I have seen quite a number of people purchase the Cube Talk 9X android tablet. The Cube i7 Remix is however quite different as it runs the desktop-like Remix OS made by Jide Technologies which is based on android, this is the same OS found on their official tablet, the Jide Remix Ultra. The Remix OS is unique as it has a taskbar just like your regular windows PC and lets you run android apps side by side or in full screen mode. The Jide Remix Ultra costs over 399USD while the Cube sells for about half the price, though the Remix Ultra comes with a keyboard.

The Cube i7 Remix features an 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 display, an Intel Atom Z3735F processor clocked at 1.8GHz, 32GB of storage with a SD slot, 2GB RAM and an 8400mAh battery. There’s a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front facing camera, HDMI port is present and there’s WiFi and Bluetooth. Folks who pick up the keyboard with their unit get to enjoy 2 full-sized USB ports at the back.

Price: about 250USD with keyboard dock.
