NCC renews MTN’s Operating Spectrum Licence for another 5 years.

With the current drama over the N1.04 trillion Naira fine the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) recently imposed on MTN still at fever pitch (we’ll share our thoughts on it soon), we have just learnt exclusively, that the NCC has renewed MTN’s Operating Spectrum Licence for another 5 years.

The operating spectrum licence, which is bundled with the 900Mhz and 1800Mhz spectrums was meant to expire on the 31st of August, 2016 but has now been extended to the 31st of August 2021, at the cost of $94,225,152.75.

The internal communication, announcing the renewal reads in part: “The extension represents a firm demonstration in MTN’s capacity to continue to provide innovative and value-adding services to our costumers.”

On the recent, squabble with NCC, the communication states that “the management continues to engage the NCC over the recent sanctions.” It also urges everyone to “remain calm” and reassure customers and stakeholders that “we (MTN) are doing everything that is possible towards and amicable settlement.”

...half genius, half unserious.
