Battle Of The Booms: Boom J8 vs Boom J7

One question that comes up frequently among phone users anytime a newer version of a model is launched is if it is necessary to upgrade especially given the shorter refresh cycles nowadays. Inquiries like these are what make comparison posts essential pointers to the features OEMs have updated and how well they are listening to consumers.

Those aforementioned short refresh cycles are evident here. The Boom J8 which was launched just last month succeeds its J7 predecessor which came to market here in Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of last year. In our Boom J7 review back then, several spec downgrades and production cuts that tended to hold back the Boom J7 were mentioned and it is good to see that TECNO listened (although there has also been a price bump to reflect these inclusions).

At quick glance, it is easy to see that the battery and display size receive an increment which solves one of the gripes we had last year while the processor has an improved chipset and GPU. Without further ado, here are the specifications of both phones compared to highlight improvements where applicable.

More attention to how these changes affect the overall performance of the device as well as TECNO’s shift in design language evolution will be examined in the Boom J8 review which comes up shortly.
