Hands On with the Infinix Hot S

I’ve had the new Infinix Hot S device with me for a bit now, but one way or the other, I didn’t find time to get to posting this…my bad.

The device, which first surfaced in July, when Infinix released some teasers, officially launched three weeks ago in these parts. Infinix says the device is its first “Lifestyle smartphone” (No idea what that is at the moment, but I intend to find out as I review the device). It’s also the first Infinix device to ship with a fingerprint scanner, which doubles as the shutter button when you’re taking a selfie.

The device ships in a white box, that is typical of Infinix – there’s nothing extra about the package. Get through the plastic wrap and under the box cover, and you’ll find the device snuggly fitted into a protective sleeve. Life the device up, and you’ll find a box with all the documentation and also a pin to pop out the sim tray with.

Underneath that, you’ll find a travel charger, USB cable and earpiece neatly tucked in different compartments.

The device itself reminds me a lot of the Hot 2, mostly because of the plastic back, which feel the same and coincidentally my review units in both cases were gold. In the case of the Hot S though, the back is non-removable. Hot 2 influences aside, the device also reminds of the iPhone, with it’s rounded corners and two-tone contrasting back design.

The device features a 5.2-inch, full HD display, framed in a metal chassis, beneath the display, powering the device is a 64-bit, octa core processor clocked at 1.35Ghz, 2GB RAM, a 3000mAh battery, and 16GB storage. The storage is expandable via microSD, however doing so means you’d have to sacrifice the use of the second sim slot. The device packs an 8-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel main camera and is fast charge compatible.

On the software side of things, the device ships with android Marshmallow, under Infinix’s XOS skin, which features a few tricks under its’ sleeves.

As mentioned above, the device spots a finger print scanner at the rear, which we intend to put through its paces in the review as also the rest of the device, so you should definitely keep an eye for that.

In the meantime, here are the full specs, and a few unboxing images:
