Google Allo might get released this week

Google’s millionth foray into the world of messaging, Allo may be coming to a smartphone near you on September 21st, according to leaker extra-ordinaire, Evan Blass. Blass has been responsible for most major hardware and industry leaks and his track record is pretty solid so you can pretty much mark your calendar. However, Google has recently burned me by not releasing Nougat for Nexus 6 so I am still taking it with a grain of salt.

The question is, will you download Allo when it becomes available. Fellow messaging offering, Duo, the video messaging app, came out recently and got massive downloads but apparently, there isn’t much usage of the app based on industry metrics. Also, are you really willing to use yet another messaging app. WhatsApp is pretty much the King of the Hill and I cannot even begin to think how I will convince my friend’s to once again use another messaging app just to talk to me. But the fact that Google Assistant, Google’s super smart AI platform, underlays Allo is interesting. Also, it is cross-platform and uses your phone number and not your email address as Hangouts has been doing.

Watch this space for Google Allo release.
