One of the most frequently sought out answers here at Techsuplex usually is a variant of one of the following: “android data recovery,” “android data recovery software,” “recover deleted text messages android”, “how to retrieve deleted text messages from android” and I think it is understandable why. Mistakenly deleting stuff off your device is fairly common, sometimes as a result of an unlocked device in a pocket or handbag, other times it’s just the “human factor.”
If you are one of those looking for a solution though, you will want to check out Cleverfile’s Disk Drill. Unlike most of the other software that we get to check out for testing purposes, this one was sent in by one of our readers, who was wowed by it and thought we should give it a spin. Give it a spin we did.
Disk Drill treats your android device like a regular hard drive, meaning, it will allow you run deep scans, quick scans and even partition searches on both the ROM and expandable memory. If you aren’t tech savvy, or do not care much about the details, there’s also a “Recover” option that allows you sit back and allow the app do its thing, and after a few minutes, you will have access to most, if not everything you lost.
While for the most part, I have focused on accidental deletes and human error up to this point, Disk Drill also recovers files off devices that have been formatted, either deliberately or otherwise.
Beyond recovering files and folders, another super cool feature the app has is the ability to recover deleted chat messages from SMS and apps such as Whatsapp. I’m pretty sure everyone has mistakenly deleted one or more of such chats that turned out to be really important, so this for me is a huge deal.
Beyond smartphones and tablets, the app can also recover all sorts of data from various kinds of storage.
There’s just one catch with using Disk Drill, for it to gain deep access to your device’s memory to do advanced searches and scans like mentioned above, it needs to have root access, meaning the device from which data is being recovered has to be rooted.
That hurdle aside, if you want to recover your text messages using Disk Drill, its as easy as going through the following steps:
- Download and install Disk Drill.
- Enable USB debugging mode on your android device and connect your device to the computer.
- You should see a prompt on your device asking you to give Disk Drill your permission to connect to your device, allow it.
- Do a scan with the app, and select what you need to remover and use the recover option.

Disk Drill also has too options—Recovery Vault and Guaranteed recovery, which when activated starts keeping metadata logs of all your deletions, making it much easier and a lot more accurate when you try to recover files that were deleted while the settings were active.
